1. Social Feed

Hevy’s Home tab is a content feed that displays workouts from people you follow. It shows sessions with a name, description (if the user’s written one), and overview of some stats (like duration, training volume, and number of personal records).

Below that, you can see the number of likes, and tap on comments on the bottom right to leave one.

You can also swipe horizontally to see any media the user has uploaded along with their workout.

The Home tab also displays a horizontal carousel with suggested athletes. You can visit their profiles, tap to follow them, or remove them from your list.

To turn off the suggested athlete carousel, navigate to:

Profile tab > gear icon on the top right > Privacy & Social under Preferences > Hide Suggested Users > toggle switch on

Learn more about the content feed, search field, and Invite a Friend option here.

2. Discover Section

Tap the grey Home button at the top left while in the Home tab and switch to Discover to see recent workouts from people you don’t follow.

Tap on any workout to open it and see all the details:

Also, open any athlete’s profile to see their activity and stats:

When you open a user’s workout, you can tap the three dots on the top right to reveal additional options:

  • Save as Routine – store that user’s workout as a reusable template in your profile. You can find your routines in Hevy’s Workout tab. Learn how routines work.

  • Copy Workout – start a live session with the same details. Edit any of the training variables and log the workout set by set.

The same option is available when you open another user’s workout in the Home feed.

3. Athlete Workouts

You can tap any workout in the Home and Discover feed, as well as while looking through a user’s profile, to open it for more details.

You can see the muscle split, number and type of sets, exercises, weight, reps, RPE (if logged), duration, personal records, and the user’s exercise notes.

Below their activity graph, you can tap to follow or unfollow the person and tap Compare to see your stats side-by-side. These include your muscle split, number of workouts, time spent training, volume, and movements in common. We’ll discuss this feature in the next point.

Next, you can access the user’s saved routines, tap on any for details, and save the ones you like to your profile.

To set your profile to private, navigate to:

5. Compare Performance & Stats

Hevy allows you to compare your exercise performance and workout stats (total workouts, training volume distribution displayed on a chart, overall training volume, and time spent training) with those of other users.

To access all the data, visit another user’s profile, tap Compare, and select to display information from the last 30 days, three months, year, or all time.

Under Exercises in Common, you can tap on any available movement to compare your performance to the other user’s.

6. Leaderboards

In addition to comparing your performance with individual users, Hevy’s leaderboards rank your best lift on 38 exercises against your friends.

Access leaderboards by navigating to the Profile tab, selecting Statistics, and scrolling down to Leaderboard Exercises.

Browse the activities and tap on any of them to see how you rank among your friends.

For more details, tap on any person’s best performance to see the workout where they got their record.

7. Share Folders & Routines

Hevy allows you to import, copy, and create routines (reusable workout templates) and organize them in folders. You can also share individual routines or entire folders outside Hevy.

To share a routine, navigate to the Workout tab and tap the three dots > Share Routine.

This allows you to share the routine outside Hevy. For example, you can generate a link you can post anywhere, including in a private chat with a friend. When someone clicks on the link, they are taken to the specific routine in hevy.com (here’s a sample).

Folder sharing works the same. Tap the three dots next to a folder and select Share Folder.

You can share it outside Hevy and generate an image.

One neat option is to create a folder for a training plan, generate an image, and post it on a forum (such as Hevy’s subreddit) for feedback.

8. Upload Media

You can upload media to any workout before saving it to your profile. To do that:

Step 1: Log a workout in Hevy (read more about the process here).

Step 2: Tap the blue Finish button on the top right.

Step 3: Tap the Add a photo / video text.

You can upload three photos or two photos and a video and tap and drag to rearrange them.

Step 4: Tap the blue Save button at the top right to save the session and media to your profile.

Every Hevy user can see your uploaded media if your profile is public. However, only your followers will have access if your profile is private.

Read more about this feature here.

9. Strava Integration

Hevy’s Strava integration allows you to share your gym workouts with your Strava followers automatically.

As you save a workout, Strava will send you a push notification to review and adjust the session before saving it to your feed. You can change the title and description, add a photo or video, change the display rules, and adjust details like the session’s duration and type.

To enable the integration, navigate to:

Profile > gear icon on the top right > Integrations (under Preferences)

Select Connect with Strava:

Then tap Authorize:

WORK OUT. TRACK PROGRESS. SOCIALIZE.

Whether you’re a regular person, competitive bodybuilder, or athlete, Hevy allows you to log sessions, track progress, and socialize.

Best workout tracking app

This is by far my favorite workout tracking app. You can tell that the creators work out themselves because they know how important it is to be able to label drop sets, failure sets, supersets, etc. It allows me to track everything I need. When if it’s been a while since I did an exercise I can easily take a look at my history.

Kept Me Accountable

I have been using this app since January. I love it. It’s the thing that had kept me in the gym this year because it helps me see results. I love how it syncs with my watch and I can input the weight and reps on my watch or phone. I appreciate that it supplies workouts for different splits so I don’t need to pay for a trainer. I love how it holds the last rep and weight from the previous time I did the exercise.

Really helpful illustrations

My focus now is on building functional strength to avoid injuries as I age. Coming back to lifting as an adult with moderate gym anxiety, the Hevy app has helped me track progress on my weights and allowed me to make intelligent choices about increasing the amount I’m lifting. I really appreciate the illustrations and animations that help me learn new movements.

Yes. Go to Home, tap the magnifying glass icon at the top right, and select ‘Invite a friend.’ You can invite friends from WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, X (Twitter), and your contact list, as well as generate a link and send it directly to people who want to try Hevy.
Both feeds display workouts from other Hevy users with training details, descriptions, and attached media (if any). The difference is that your discovery feed shows workouts from people you don’t follow, whereas the Home section is reserved for users you’ve followed.
