What is the Warm-up Calculator?

Hevy’s warm-up calculator allows you to adjust some settings and more quickly add percentage-based warm-up sets to exercises while creating routines (reusable workout templates) or logging live workouts.

How to Use the Warm-up Set Calculator

Step 1: Activate It

Navigate to your settings:

Profile tab > Settings gear icon (top right) > Workouts (under Preferences) > Warm-up Calculator

Turn it on via the toggle.

Step 2: Select the Warmup Method

Tap Warmup Method to program your preferred warm-up sets. You can use the default formula:

Alternatively, tap on each set to change the percentage and reps and use the two grey buttons below to add or remove warm-up sets.

You can also select the Reset to Default option at the bottom to change to the original formula.

Step 3: Adjust Plate Rounding (optional)

Select your preferred weight increments for warm-up calculations.

Step 4: Adjust Dumbbell Rounding (optional)

Likewise, choose your preferred weight rounding when using dumbbells. For instance, if the dumbbells you use are in 2.5-kilogram increments, select that option.

Step 5: Add Warm-up Sets to Exercises

Whether creating a routine, logging a live session, or adding exercises to an empty workout, you can tap the three dots on the top right of a movement and select Add Warm Up Sets. Write the target weight at the top and tap the blue Insert Warmup Sets button.

The warm-up sets will appear at the top. You can always delete them or add additional warm-up sets by marking subsequent sets as warm-ups (tap the number next to the set and select Warm Up Set).

Best workout tracking app

This is by far my favorite workout tracking app. You can tell that the creators work out themselves because they know how important it is to be able to label drop sets, failure sets, supersets, etc. It allows me to track everything I need. When if it’s been a while since I did an exercise I can easily take a look at my history.

Kept Me Accountable

I have been using this app since January. I love it. It’s the thing that had kept me in the gym this year because it helps me see results. I love how it syncs with my watch and I can input the weight and reps on my watch or phone. I appreciate that it supplies workouts for different splits so I don’t need to pay for a trainer. I love how it holds the last rep and weight from the previous time I did the exercise.

Really helpful illustrations

My focus now is on building functional strength to avoid injuries as I age. Coming back to lifting as an adult with moderate gym anxiety, the Hevy app has helped me track progress on my weights and allowed me to make intelligent choices about increasing the amount I’m lifting. I really appreciate the illustrations and animations that help me learn new movements.

Warm-up sets are not mandatory but highly beneficial because they prepare your body for your workout, prime your nervous system, and help you detect potential aches before using your working weight. The time and effort invested are well worth it.
Three warm-up sets is the sweet spot for most people to work up to their working weight gradually. However, you can do one or two if you’re not lifting that much weight (generally around 135-155 lbs) or more than three if you’re lifting heavy (north of 300 lbs) and want to prepare better.
You can add warm-up sets to more than one exercise in your workout. However, the feature is only available for exercises where you can input a load. For instance, you cannot add pre-calculated percentage-based warm-up sets for duration activities like the plank. For these, you can tap on a set and select Warm Up Set from the menu options.
Navigate to the settings (Profile > gear icon > Workouts > Warm-up Calculator > Warmup Method), change the formula, and add or remove sets.
Yes. While logging a gym session, you can tap the three dots next to an exercise and select the Add Warm Up Sets option. You can also mark additional sets as warm-ups by tapping on them and choosing from the set type menu. To remove a warm-up set, swipe left on it to reveal the red Delete button.
