Start With a Blank Workout Template

Navigate to the Workout tab inside Hevy and tap the + Start Empty Workout button at the top to begin a new session with the stopwatch on the top left. Next to the stopwatch, you can monitor your volume load and the number of completed sets.

Tap the stopwatch to change the session’s duration, start date, and start time, or pause/restart the workout timer.

Log the Workout

You will be prompted to add exercises to the workout and adjust the training variables by adding sets, marking them by type, and adjusting the rest timer.

You can tap the three dots on any exercise to open additional options: reorder, replace, add to a superset, add warm-up sets, and remove the movement. You can also write a custom note for any exercise, input new training values, and mark individual sets as complete, prompting the rest timer.

Mark Your Session as Complete

Once finished logging all the sets, tap the Finish button on the top right. This will open a new window where you can:

  • See some details (session duration, volume, and number of sets)
  • Adjust the start date and time (if logging a previously completed workout)
  • Upload a video and images
  • Write a description for future reference

Once you’ve saved a workout, navigate to the Profile tab, scroll down to your recent workouts, and tap the three dots. This allows you to save the workout as a routine to reuse in the future.

Edit any of the training details, change the name if necessary, and tap Save to store it in your library (found in the Workout tab).

Best workout tracking app

This is by far my favorite workout tracking app. You can tell that the creators work out themselves because they know how important it is to be able to label drop sets, failure sets, supersets, etc. It allows me to track everything I need. When if it’s been a while since I did an exercise I can easily take a look at my history.

Kept Me Accountable

I have been using this app since January. I love it. It’s the thing that had kept me in the gym this year because it helps me see results. I love how it syncs with my watch and I can input the weight and reps on my watch or phone. I appreciate that it supplies workouts for different splits so I don’t need to pay for a trainer. I love how it holds the last rep and weight from the previous time I did the exercise.

Really helpful illustrations

My focus now is on building functional strength to avoid injuries as I age. Coming back to lifting as an adult with moderate gym anxiety, the Hevy app has helped me track progress on my weights and allowed me to make intelligent choices about increasing the amount I’m lifting. I really appreciate the illustrations and animations that help me learn new movements.

Starting an empty workout means you essentially get a blank workout template, which you can use in multiple ways. You can add different types of movements and adjust the training variables to suit your workout style and goals.
Once you navigate to the Workout tab and select + Start Empty Workout at the top, the timer starts, and you can add activities by tapping the blue + Add Exercise button. You can add multiple exercises together or one at a time.
You have complete freedom to add, remove, reorder, and replace exercises, add and remove sets, label sets by type, write custom notes, adjust the rest timer, pair movements into supersets, and input training data for each set (weight lifted, reps done, and RPE, or duration).
Yes, you can start an empty workout, add exercises, adjust the variables, log the sets, and click Finish. You can then change the start date and time so it’s displayed for the correct day.
Yes. You can click the Discard Workout button at the bottom in case you can’t finish a session you’ve started.
