We’re excited to introduce Hevy Trainer, our new smart training companion for personalized programs with built-in progression.
Trainer is an algorithm-based feature that creates workout programs based on your fitness goals, experience, available equipment, workout frequency, and time constraints. It also analyzes your performance and provides ongoing guidance to keep you motivated and informed.

How Does Trainer Work?
Answer a few questions during onboarding, and Trainer will generate a complete program with workouts, exercises, rep ranges, rest periods, recommendations for starting weights, and helpful tips.
You can even select a priority muscle group to train slightly more than the rest of your body.
Trainer is informed by exercise science research and backed by real-world coaching experience. This means there’s a reason behind every programming decision, whether it’s exercise selection, rep ranges, built-in rest periods, or something else.
As a side note, Trainer doesn’t change how Hevy works. Hevy is still the best social workout tracker for logging any workout, connecting with friends, and tracking your progress. Trainer is simply the path forward for people who want guidance.
Speaking of that, what further makes Trainer personalized is its ongoing guidance. Getting a program is just the start, but continued support is what allows your plan to adapt and become increasingly tailored to you.
Part of the guidance includes:
- Suggested starting weights for new exercises (when you’ve logged the exercise at least once before)
- Automatic weight progression based on performance
- Gentle reminders to maintain intensity if progress stalls
- How-to instructions and demo animations for the exercises you’re logging
Trainer also includes a progress report that keeps you informed about week-to-week workout consistency, time spent training, number of completed sets, and progress on individual exercises.
It shows how your weekly training volume is distributed across major muscle groups and whether you’re hitting the recommended number of sets per body part. Body weight is displayed alongside training data to provide additional insight, particularly useful when building muscle or losing fat.
Why Does Hevy Trainer Exist?
Hevy started with a simple mission:
Make humanity stronger.
For years, we have obsessed over creating the best, most reliable, and most intuitive workout-tracking experience with a strong and supportive community around it. We started by getting our friends and family to use Hevy, and we now have 10+ million athletes worldwide.
But a lot of people out there don’t know how to train effectively, don’t have the time and energy to plan their workouts, or simply prefer to be guided. So, we built Hevy Trainer for them.
The moment you have to ask:
- “What should I do today?”
- “Am I progressing correctly?”
- “What if the gym is packed?”
- “What if I’m doing this wrong?”
Consistency breaks. So, we asked ourselves, “What if the best workout plan… was the one you’d actually follow?”
Trainer is a huge step toward making humanity stronger. The good news is that it is included in Hevy Pro with no change in price. Want to learn more about Trainer? Click here to read our dedicated page for in-depth information.
