Custom Exercises in Hevy

Navigate to the Profile tab and tap Exercises to access the library of 400+ exercises. Use the search field and filters for equipment and muscle targets to find the relevant movements.

Let’s say a movement you enjoy doing, be it a pre-workout stretch, a less common variation of a core barbell lift, a cardio exercise, or something else, isn’t in the library. In that case, tap the Create text on the top right and add it to your library with all the important details:

  • Image
  • Name
  • Required equipment (if any)
  • Primary muscle target
  • Secondary muscle targets
  • Exercise type (such as weight & reps, bodyweight reps, or duration)

You can also select any existing exercise from the library and duplicate it to turn it into a custom exercise. Open an exercise in the library (or by clicking on it while logging a live workout or creating a routine) and tap the three dots on the top right.

Tweak the name, change the asset (you can add a photo, video, or GIF), and adjust any other details if necessary.

If you stop using a custom exercise and want to clean up your library, you can open the entry, tap the three dots on the top right, and select Delete Exercise.

Best workout tracking app

This is by far my favorite workout tracking app. You can tell that the creators work out themselves because they know how important it is to be able to label drop sets, failure sets, supersets, etc. It allows me to track everything I need. When if it’s been a while since I did an exercise I can easily take a look at my history.

Kept Me Accountable

I have been using this app since January. I love it. It’s the thing that had kept me in the gym this year because it helps me see results. I love how it syncs with my watch and I can input the weight and reps on my watch or phone. I appreciate that it supplies workouts for different splits so I don’t need to pay for a trainer. I love how it holds the last rep and weight from the previous time I did the exercise.

Really helpful illustrations

My focus now is on building functional strength to avoid injuries as I age. Coming back to lifting as an adult with moderate gym anxiety, the Hevy app has helped me track progress on my weights and allowed me to make intelligent choices about increasing the amount I’m lifting. I really appreciate the illustrations and animations that help me learn new movements.

You can select barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, gym machines, weight plates, resistance bands, suspension kits, or no equipment.
You can choose one primary and multiple secondary muscle targets. For example, if you want to add a custom push-up variation, you can select a primary muscle (say, the chest) and multiple secondary targets (say, the abs, shoulders, and triceps).
Exercise types are the different categories you can use to label custom movements, such as weight and reps.
You can choose between weight & reps (e.g., bench press), bodyweight reps (e.g., pull-ups), weighted bodyweight (e.g., weighted dips), assisted bodyweight (e.g., assisted pull-ups), duration (e.g., plank), duration & weight (e.g., weighed wall sit), distance & duration (e.g., rowing), or weight & distance (e.g., suitcase carry).
Yes. Find a custom exercise in the library (hint: you can scroll down and find your list of custom exercises once you pass the Recent Exercises section), open it, tap the three dots on the top right, and select Edit Exercise.
